Randy Pausch’s testimony to the Labor, Health and Human Serv

On March 13, 2008, Dr. Randy Pausch provided testimony to the Labor, Health & Human Services Subcommittee on behalf of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. This is his personal story about his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer and his fight to survive. Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths in the US, but receives extremely little federal funding to support research efforts. In March of 2008, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network went to Congress to urge the federal government to provide critical funding to speed the cure for this horrible disease.

Such a powerful person. Nobody in my family has ever gotten this specific disease, but my fathers side tends to have bad luck with cancer in general. Recently I’ve been worrying myself to death about pancreatic cancer, as I’ve been getting vague aches and a weird appetite lately (although I’m certain stress hasn’t helped). But he gives me some relief, in a sense, because there’s no point worrying about it, even if it’s real. Worrying never helps, all you can do is help the cause.

We all strive for purpose in our lives. To become an advocate for others while on your own deathbed demonstrates a level of personal character most will never know. Randy has forever impacted my life. Thank you Randy for making a difference in this world. May God bless your soul and your family.
